    Because you have to Squeeze it to disengage the grip safety

    The Model 40 was the centenial model "Lemon Squeezer" and was in production starting in 1953. the one pictured was made in 1952 according to Smith and Wesson, It does not have an "L" for Lemon Squeezer in the 4 digit Serial number, which they started in 1968, and there is no Model number on the crane.
