9mm vs 5.7 PDW

The P90 and PS90 and a few other AR uppers are on the market with the 5.7 round. There are alot of 9mm carbines with H&K being the best of the best. Is the 5.7 a scame round or is H&K playing politics to protect there turf with LEO and military? Yep, a calibur question. Not to the leangth of 9mm vs 45acp but a challenge still the same. Please chime in with facts in real time shootings or just balistics in the PDW role not the hand gun role.

Thank You

Not quite sure what the real question with the HK part in there is. HK has its own PDW round the 4.6x30 in the MP7, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_&_Koch_MP7

As far as the 5.7 is was designed for a certain role and that was to defeat body armor at short ranges. This is a FN product not HK.

With the ammo offerings for the civilian market it is not even able to do that.

Coming from a ps90 owner, I love mine. I take it out on the 4th of july and let all my little nieces and nephews shoot it. I'm sorry we can't get real ammo in the states anymore but that gun was designed for specific applications. It's cool but has no knock down. On a side note, I did load up some hand loads with .224 that worked quite well.

At one time the NATO wanted to adopt the 5.7x28FN PDW round and FNs P90/FiveseveN complex to replace the 9mm in all combat roles, but germany protested, and is still protesting. Germany wants its own propertary H&K 4.6x30 MP-7/UCP complex to be adopted to replace the 9mm Nato.

KAC of USA has also designed a new PDW round the, 6x35mm

The chinese have also designed a pistol sized bottle neck round similar to the 5.7x28mm that they have chambered in a Pistol/PDW.

That sums it up pretty well, I'd add though that the rumblings I've heard from HK circles is that HK is very near giving up on the 4.6mm, and rightfully so IMO.
