What is the best Double action Revolver S&W ever made in your opinion? I like my 686 Combat Master, so whats your favorite?

I am also partial to the 686...
Without a doubt, the best Smith and Wesson revolver ever made was the original (.357) Magnum, with the signed provenance and the wooden box. The very first one was presented to J. Edgar Hoover.
1935, I think.

I think Doug has it right. The "Registered Magnums" (S&W never actually called them that) were totally deluxe and custom guns built to be the best. The descendants of the RMs, the Pre-War Magnums, Pre-27s and Model 27s continued to reign as S&W's most deluxe revolvers. Some people erroneously believe the Model 29 was the top of the S&W line but it was the 27 that was really the best finished and most prestigious.
Too old to live...too young to die...
Is this correct?
Also, if you've ever seen the blueing on one of them, all other blueing will look like rust in comparison. Except, maybe early Hi-Powers. Pythons were not even close. My opinion.

By the way, isn't that "Combat Masterpiece" ??
Doug
The M-15 was the Combat Masterpiece.
I would have to say their Performance Shop 66 F comp. 3" Tuned action , magnaported, tritium front sight, round butt. Their older 27's were just as sweet but without the modern options. Try and locate one of these documented ones. I am also partial to the K-22 Masterpiece's.
Giveaway?[8D]

Model 19 Combat Masterpiece, with target trigger and hammer.
Model 66.
M-19=Combat Magnum, M-15=Combat Masterpiece
Many of the "Pre-models are superior quality, i.e. Pre-Model 17 etc..
Weren't many "Pre-" models build on, say, an existing frame altered to suit the idea, rather than a new frame engineered for the new idea?
Best of the mass-produced production guns is going to be not quite as good as best of the hand finished hand fitted custom guns.
As already mentioned the older production guns had more handwork involved, and are probably really are better than later mass-production guns.
Also, there may be individual examples within any production run or lot that stand out a bit from the others (particularly older ones where there was more hand-finishing).
Anyway, I'm going to also vote for the model 19 as the best production Smith revolver that I have personally tried. (Its the older, blued version of the 66). DA trigger pull is like sliding ice cubes on glass!
Y'all have inspired a shoot out for this afternoon...Thanks!
.500,.460,.629,629,686...I still like the 686 the best...

Only an idiot would even bid on it!!!!
The 610 and the 617. Both with wood combat grips.
Like these two Tom?
Personally, I think the 27-2 is nicer.
