What the heck is this thing? Rubber circle thing?

I have a rifle here that has a rubber ring on the barrel....it says "limb saver" on it and all I can think it might be for is to hold a clamp on bi pod or something??? Anyone know what it is?

I'll probobly take it off when I list the gun....but still, just wondering what this is for?

If it's what I think it is, it's supposed to dampen barrel vibration and make your gun shoot better.

And yes, it does work. Especially on a rifle that has not been bedded.

It was on a Rem 700 VSF 308 hvy barrel....so, I doubt it helped at all. I've been in gun shops all my life and haven't ever seen one. I don't know how I could get out more??? [:D]

I was wondering the same. Just saw a hunters rifle on Western Extremes on the Outdoor Channel that had one.

Maybe not so much about getting out more as reading more, if you've got the time. They were written up in all the gun magazines when they came out and are shown in Bass Pro Shop and Cabela's catalogs,
among others.

Watch this video AK-47 VS M16. Pay close attention to the barrels even on the M16, just in front of the front sight. You will see the barrel Resonate (flex). All high powered rifle barrels resonate some when fired. A De-Resonator stops the flex and makes the rifle shoot more accurate.

my buddy O put one on his bolt action .223 and it actually tightened the group on a average rifle. it's cheaper than floating the barrel and having it crowned. neat little thing, but I don't think I would use one a a blued rifle. may get some dust between it and the rifle to cause some scratches....
