Obama Chooses Sotomayor for Supreme Court Nominee
By Jeff Zeleny
President Obama will nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as his first appointment to the court, officials said Tuesday, and has scheduled an announcement for 10:15 a.m. at the White House.
If confirmed by the Democratic-controlled Senate, Judge Sotomayor, 54, would replace Justice David H. Souter to become the second woman on the court and only the third female justice in the history of the Supreme Court. She also would be the first Hispanic justice to serve on the Supreme Court.
The president reached his decision over the long Memorial Day weekend, aides said, but it was not disclosed until Tuesday morning when he informed his advisers of his choice less than three hours before the announcement was scheduled to take place.
The president narrowed his list to four, according to people close to the selection process, including Federal Appeals Judge Diane P. Wood of Chicago, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Solicitor General Elena Kagan.
In what may be her best-known ruling, Judge Sotomayor issued an injunction against major league baseball owners in April 1995, effectively ending a baseball strike of nearly eight months, the longest work stoppage in professional sports history, which had led to the cancellation of the World Series for the first time in 90 years.

Not saying this choice is any better, but I don't know this particular enemy.
Welcome to Mexico, land of the amnesty and were going to pay.[xx(]

Geraldo Rivera was just on Fox. Naturally, he's thrilled.

If Geraldo is thrilled..its bad news for the rest of us.

I know not one thing about that nominee, but I have to agree with Chris.
I note that despite her humble background she still managed to graduate from Princeton and Yale. Can you say "affirmative action?" I assume she is no dummy, though. Quotas got her in the door but she still had to graduate.
Been a lawyer in private practice as well as a judge at all levels. No question about experience or qualifications.
She claims to defend the Constitution. Hope so. You figure she will be pro-choice. Sorry if this is your main issue, but she's a Liberal woman and she will likely be pro-choice. On the second Amendment I guess she will not be our friend but don't know how bad she may be. I hope I am wrong and she defends ALL of the Constitution.
Considering the anti-American Socialist making the nomination it could have been much worse. Yes, of course politics play a big part in the nomination process. If I were a Republican in the Senate I would support her. We won't get anything better from Obama.
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
When they first showed her this morning I thought obama had nominated Roseanne Barr. I wonder if she can sing the Star-Spangled Banner [?]
Her version begins with "Jose' can you see"?
Puerto Rico is as American as Iowa or Alabama. Please don't confuse her with the Mexican Proxy War we're semi-fighting.
That's true but her nomination will bolster the Hispanic vote whether they come from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ecuador or Guatemala.
....................Don't figure her for someone who gets a Cheaper Than Dirt flyer.

Thus the danger to Repubs who look to bash her.
She was first appointed to the bench by George H.W. Bush.

Agreed. Nobody ever said Obama is a dummy.
1. a female
2. an Hispanic
He is so predictable
She believes in SAYING she follows the Constitution, buy she lies when she says it. She is as radical an activist Liberal judge as there is and nobody worse could be found. Equally bad, maybe, but none worse.
Based on public comments I have heard on news broadcasts during the day I think she is racist and sexist. She believes the court exists to knock down the evil white male and empower minorities and women.
She is not even a good judge at the lower level. She has been chastised by other judges and she has been overturned 80% of the time on appeal which is horrendous.
God help us until we get Obama and his ilk out of office.
...Read the other day that she has had 80% of her appeals cases OVERTURNED that she has ruled on, reamed by some far left Clinton appointees for not following the Constitution.
...The case of the Fireman that were denied promotions after passing all their exams will go before the Supreme Court soon, she thru THAT out when it came before her, see 80% above, and is highly likely to be another of her "overturned" cases, yep, she's a genius alrighty...[;)]
...Sotomayor is on video admitting that "we all know that policy is made from the bench", speaking to an audience of Judges & Attorneys...giving the ole wink & nod; "oh, maybe I shouldn't say that since it's being recorded"...then laughed, hello Judicial activism...yeah buddy, sounds like a strict Constitutionalist to me alright...she is far from following the Constitution, she'd prefer to mutilate it...[xx(]

Yep,....... but what really cracks me up is they are all saying she is a wonderful pick because she is a female Hispanic,......raised in the projects,.......and was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 8.
Wow, I am impressed with that!
