I believe you will find the cause of the war was less about slavery, and more about an oppressive federal government attempting to usurp authority over the legal commerce of individual states in the South.

Well, Earlene, you hit on a big plus to living in Bulgaria!
Guys I wouldn't personally fly one over my house, it's not an issue I wish to delve into in my neighborhood.
However, that talk about "traitorous" is a little strong. You have to remember those folks were living as they knew to live. While times and knowledge and education has changed us all a bit, during a time when it was "accepted" to own another human being, they lived and died for what they believed in. Like it or not, it's a huge piece of our American History and should NOT be forgotten.
The bigger problem to me is NOT the Confederate Flag per se. It's this whole culture we live in that if it OFFENDS one person, it's no longer acceptable. Whatever happened to that whole FREEDOM thing. It's really NOT about flying the flag as much as it is protecting ones right to do that, if they choose. It's also a rather important thing to ask, "what's being done under that flag?" i.e. if it's flown at a NASCAR race it signifies the great southern tradition of stock car racing and not necessarily the Civil War remembrance. Folsk are way to thin skinned these days and a lot of good people have lost their jobs and worse just because they said something that offended someone.

No way Jose. There were far too many & they were being born too fast. Besides where would you put them? I just saw a story about an early attempt to resettle freed slaves & how many problems they had with just 1000 of them.
I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and several people around where I live still fly the 1st and 2nd national flags. The tourists who come down to our beautiful valley don't even know what those flags represent. Sometimes they ask why all of the farms here have newer barns. I tell them to go ask General Sheridan.
And another thing, all of us, no matter what nationality we are, have been slaves at some point in history. My Germanic ancestors were slaves to the Romans. I get tired of hearing these poor black oppressed people are sad. At least, during the War Between the States, blacks weren't killed in the horrific ways my ancestors were by the Romans! And not in the huge numbers mine were. Hey, I wonder if I can get compensation from the Italian government?!
