The Enduring Wit of Sam Clemmons

Some of you may know him by a different name. [:D]

I found one of his quotes today and now, like then, it's still very viable.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.? Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime".

If you don't know his more familiar name, take that as a hint you need to get out more!
He was America's greatest humorist.

And Samuel Clemens spent his summers on Quarry Road in Elmira, NY. He's buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. His study is located on the grounds of Elmira College.

Mort Train was not America's greatest humorist. It was Wiley Rotgers, and I'm sure of the spelling. But he was killed in a gunfight with an Eskimo in 1728, I think I saw the actual tapes on MSNBC.

I was outside all day, too.

I disagree. The greatest humorist was Native American comedian Henny Youngwoman, who coined the phrase "Take my squaw, please!".

Will was good, but until he pens something like Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn, I will continue to rank Mr CLEMENS number one. [}:)][:D]
