"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." ~George
Santayana (1863-1952)

"Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so
enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss offreedom and danced in his path and gave him triumphal processions...
Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the 'new, wonderful good society' which shall now be Rome, interpreted to mean 'more money, more ease, more security, more living fatly at the expense of the
industrious.'" ~Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.)
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

"Facts are stubborn things. [The F-22] has not flown a single combat mission. I don't think the F-22 will ever be seen in the combat it was designed to counter, because that threat is no longer in existence."

"Generals are always preparing to fight the last war."

The specific threat is no longer in existence, but the combat aircraft that were produced by the Soviets are in existence and in properly trained hands would give even the F-15 a run for its money.

The F-22 minimizes this problem, extending the effective life of the F-15s and F-16s, and to lessor degree the F-18s of the USN.

Just as the Hurricane was responsible for more kills than the Spitfire during the Battle of Britain, it would not have been free to roam had the Spits not been taking on the 109s and 190s.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

It's a very fancy, very neat warplane, and it comes along at a time that Vietnam-era planes are easily doing everything we need done.

Furthermore, it's the exactly wrong plane at the exactly wrong time. Imagine if all the money spent on the F22 had instead been spent on drones and UAVs, which everybody agrees is the technology of the future. In the F22 the American military has purchased the most incredibly advanced VHS tape player the world has ever seen.

Weird. I could have sworn that I just read that we only need drones and that manned aircraft and aircraft carriers were obsolete. Hmmmm...

"He [the Raptor pilot] flew under their aircraft [the F-4s] to check out their weapons load without them knowing that he was there, and then pulled up on their left wing and then called them and said `you really ought to go home,'" Gen. Welsh said.

They are flying unmanned F-16's right now.

    The rest will likely follow.

They were flying unmanned B-17s during WWII and unmanned F6Fs during the Korean War. The transition is taking a little time...
