Gravity is not a law, Gravity is a vigilante

A law can be violated. A law can be negotiated by a prosecutor. A law can be repealed. When gravity kicks in YOU WILL COMPLY.

Yesterday I had a bit of an adventure involving gravity. I had to offload a lawnmower from a pickup single handedly. Normally that is an easy job if there are two men or a man and a boy handy to do it. I didn't have a man and a boy handy.

I didn't want to rig the winch. The battery is probably dead anyway, so I rigged a couple of lines to give me leverage. I thought I still had enough * to control it.

It started out as a smooth operation, just like I thought it would be. The front wheels hit the first rung on the ramp and it took very little effort to stop the mower. Next rung, then the next in like manner. When the rear wheels cleared the tailgate gravity took over. That's when I found out I don't still have enough * to control it.

The mower went from zero to fast in nothing flat. It * my feet clear of the ground. I was only airborne for about six or eight feet. It was a short but exciting flight. I held the line but my hands were nice and warm (hot) when I got back on the ground. When all four wheels were on the ground it slowed to a stop.

I got the mower off the truck without damage to the mower or the truck and nobody got killed. For me that was a successful evolution.
The road to hell is paved with COMPROMISE.

See? You should have bought a car and a trailer instead of a pick-up truck.

My trailer wench is a hand crank type and the trailer is lower to the ground than a pick-up bed. Sometimes I just drive the lawnmower off.
My car also gets 32 MPG on piss gas, but I use no ethanol and fill up with ten gallons.[:D]

Glad with evolution went well with no material or personnel casualties.[:)]

If you don't do something near the edge every day, how do you know where the edge is?

You found the edge, GLAD you're OK, many next time you'll stay on this side of it!

There are about 640 skeletal muscles in the human body and you put them all thru an "oh sh.." workout Saturday when gravity got your attention.

By this afternoon or tomorrow I'm guessing that most of them will remind you that what you did to them was not something they are used too.

You might wanna send out for a bottle of horse liniment. I got a feeling your gonna need it.

    I know I would.

Clint Eastwood told us "A man has to know his limitations". He forgot to mention those limitations are subject to change without notice. [:D]

Sounds like you unloaded a Lawn Tractor, not a simple mower. If so, sounds like a dumb and dumber scenario!!!! [:0][:D]

Landings are a crash, a controlled crash where the airplane ceases to fly and it settles on its wheels, hopefully where you want it to be heading in the direction you desire. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing, if you can use the airplane again it is a perfect landing. His mower made a perfect landing and he learned the glide ratio of his mower is the same as a brick.

I've gone thru the alum rung ramps and they're a pain in the rss. Built 2 12' ramps out of FULL 2" X 12" lumber with alum. screw on tail gate "clips" and ground "Vee" sections and it's a charm every time. Use a "come a long" if the machine isn't running and pulls it right up. Also moved BIG refer units with same equip. but used a heavy duty commercial dolly to set them on. I use 2"X2" oak stakes I insert in the truck slots up near the cab to attach the come along to and it makes the whole process easy[^]

My next door neighbor and I rode a safe down a flight of basement stairs a few weeks ago.
No air. Very slow ride. But terrifying.
