That old dude on Pawn Stars can really put a value on things.
For an ex Navy man. He's still runnin a tight ship out in Vegas...
Like some of those old shooting irons they bring in there.

Couldn't sleep last night and caugth this show on TV. Showed the owners of a pawn shop negotiating for a 1894 Colt, ended up buying it for $400. Then they showed them getting it appraised at a gunshop for a couple of thousands. In past shows, they have shown the same thing with other guns and Samurai swords, paid super low prices for stuff worth thousands.
Wouldn't you think that if they were paying little to nothing for stuff, they wouldn't want it advertised on national TV?

Just read in the 25 - 31 Oct Businessweek magazine where Pawn Stars is the top cable reality show. The program, which airs on the History channel, is making it one of cable's hottest networks. The cast of the program thought they's get a season or two out of it but are now talking about season 4. They've had to hire 30 new employees and expand their showroom by two thirds. Interesting article.

Not sure if this was a repeat. But did you see the guy that brought in the 1700's pistol that turned out to be a fake?

He was PISSED! VERY funny. He bought it at a gunshow and was told it was purchased from an "estate". LOL - a term that means, bend over and be prepared to take it HARD.

Just watched a couple 3 hours of this show. Pretty good. These guys have class. Not the usual History Channel Azzholes.

Pretty drama free show. I'm impressed.

Last night a guy sold a pair of maps that his dad carried in the battle of IWO JIMA, to pay for his daughters wedding. If my had a set of maps that my father carried into war they would be family treasurs and not sold to pay for a wedding.

Some guy that is supposedly a gun dealer just said that gun prices are down due to the economy. Who writes these crappy shows?

Anybody see the episode where the lady brought in the little desk that held a hidden gun?

Of course Rick had never seen one so had to call in his "Expert" Neither one could come up with a value and then they discussed the legal aspect of transfer, and ownership and how because he didnt have an FFL license the desk would have to go through one, or a licensed gunsmith would have to "DeActivate" the gun before anyone could buy it..Oh yea , his "Expert" also said another thing is that it was a concealed weapon which also made it ilegal.[:0]

You Arizona guys, I can understand maybe a Pawn shop not buying it if it isnt a licensed FFL, but can you not sell to a private person in Arizona without transfer??

I think you missed some of that gun shop owners remarks. He said IF it
was professionally restored it would be worth $2000. "And how much would that cost?" "about $2000 dollars". [:)]

The people that sell this stuff need/want the money NOW. Yeah, they could get more bucks with a better venue, but many people simply do not care. A pawn shop offers money now. Also remember where they are. My guess is a good percentage of their customers lose that money the same day they get it in the casinos.

Its not a secret that Pawn Shops pay very little, its not guess work...Pawn shops KNOW exactly what something is worth, and they pay 25% of its value...the fact is you are coming to them...wanting a loan cause your in desperate straights....in exchange for instant credit you willingly get screwed....

Pawn Shop owners are typically VERY wealthy people....the ultimate Capitalist, buy very low and sell for market value

I;'ve got a friend that runs his dad's Pawn Shop, he sells me stuff all the time for way below market value, but he is still making a profit because desperate people give things away.

I watched a guy walk in and pawn a mint UZI for $200.....If I had the cash on me I'd grabbed him and drug him outside and bought it for $250....he didn't care he wanted the money NOW. that UZI went up on the wall for display for over a $1000

This pretty much sums it up. I watched the same episode and the prior owner of the Colt pretty much ruined it by trying to clean it up
