Well kind of.[;)][:D]

I just set up the locator on their cell phones so now I can see where they are at all the time. I can do this from any computer or my cell phone.

No more hideing (not that they ever did) from me![:D][:D][:D]

Good...now if your daughter is at a boy's house for too long, you can bust down the door, bullets flying.

They can probably just turn it off and/or pop the battery out and the locator won't work.

They will the first time you bust them. Then the batteries will come out! So I guess it's kind of a one time use thing. [:D]

I have yet to meet a teenager willing to turn off their cell phone for ANY considerable length of time. I think that IF they knew that they could be tracked, they would simply hope that DAD isn't tracking at "this exact moment."

If they are going to do something they know dad won't like, that cell phone will get turned off. And many kids already know they can be tracked via their cell phones, it is on shows like CSI all the time. And the news talks about GPS tracking devices for kids quite often. My boys watch the news with me, I am sure others do with their parents also. Most kids are more tech savvy then their parents anyway.

You know what, that's a good point. He may be unwittingly conditioning his kids to accept a "big brother" mentality as normal thereby making the next generation more open to its usages possibly by government entities. When government takes away rights, they will make it seem like a good idea, i.e. Patriot Act.

You mean you can locate their CELL PHONES with the microchip and hope that the child is near the cell phone.

Trust me I am raiseing my kids right.

I just feel that every little thing to keep the reins tight is a help (expecially since I have a daughter who is almost 12 who tries to think she is going on 18 some of the time).

I also feel that there is nothing wrong with a father keeping tabs on where his kids are at.[;)][:D]

Now when they turn 18 they will be free to do as they wish and I would not keep tabs on them like big brother leaning over their shoulder.

All will be well until they figure it out, then they will have a friend take the phone to a mall, and she will be out with Billy-Bob

whatever you knew at 15, EVERYTHING YOU KNEW, your kids know at 12. AND IT JUST GETS WORSE. You CANNOT keep them from all these things you swear that you will. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. They are smarter and more well informed than you/I ever pretended to be at that age. Instead of wasting your time and effort, frustrating yourself, as well as your kids, and very likely putting a wall between you that, in some cases, may never fully be removed, there is an answer. Talk WITH them! Not AT them. Speak to them with the same respect that you have come to expect when speaking to any other resonable person. Take the time to explain things to them (and not just 'cause you said so!) and why honesty and communication are valued and important in your family. Explain why it so important that we have intergity and strenght of character, and if you do a good job explaining/defining those things, most all of the other concerns you have about them will fall in to place. That's because you will have given them the tools/information/ammunition to make good decisions FOR THEMSELVES! And that is the key. When they can make good decisions regarding themselves, for themselves, and not just because "my mother/father said so", they will be safer, and you will get more sleep! Two very important factors here, first..don't ever blur the line between parent and friend....friends they have - parents they need! and the second thing, you had better walk the talk yourself. It's tough to impress honesty and upfront-ness upon them, if your name is Bernie Madoff ;-) Good Luck & don't forget to p/u Grecian Formula whenever it goes on sale!!
