Big fire just started north of here. *Update.

Around 15 or so miles north of here, and it's gotten that size in just a couple hours. A lot of people living very close to it, with evacuations going on now. Gonna be a bad one by the looks of it. If you're the praying type, send one up for them.[:)]

It's getting worse.[V]

I'm just glad I'm not anywhere near in the way of it. Watched it a few minutes ago from the back yard, and it isn't slowing down at all. Haven't seen smoke like this since the fires of 2000.

Same here Stay safe. Our local fire is now about 35-38,000 acres with 15% containment.

I'm not sure. I'd have to think on it, but it does sound familiar.

So, have you joined the fire crew up there yet? Fun times for the firefighters. Prayers for all.

    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life

Funny, I thought the flag said it all! I wish the best for you and all the locals affected.

FWIW, I wish people understood this issue when it would be safer to light it all off and have it burn at a "low intensity".[8D][;)]

To give you another perspective as to the size of the fire and smoke trail, the mountain directly to the left of it is 5100'.

I hope the firefighters can get a handle on that. Today is supposed to be calmer winds.

You ever get close enough to hear the roar? Makes your hairs stand right up.

Just how far from Hamilton is this fire? I ask because I know the lady that owns the Spice Of Life Cafe downtown.

what with the gusting 30-50 mph winds last night this grew from 4000 to over 7000 acres currently. . i asked the TV news station reporter[on facebook] how close this fire is to the Hamilton city limits and it is about 4 miles according to them. the danger is not how close this fire is to town, but how many 100s of homes have been built in this semi-improved forested area. less than 40% have taken proactive measures to establish fire deterent homesteads. ie judicious tree thinning and underbrush clearing, planting ground covers that don't burn easily and establishing roads to enable emergency equipment easier access.

That's what my friends from Hamilton said: They were far more worried about those who live away from town and out in the woods. Cooler and calmer weather would be nice, but a bunch of rain would be best.

Some of my friends here were sent out to assist with the Roaring lion fire in Montana. Are these pictures from that fire or a different fire? Any updates on this fire near you 35 Whelen?

all the pics and video are from the Roaring Lion fire, no stock photos. size has increased to 8200 acres + 1 more home has burned. some rain fell yesterday in an afternoon thunderstorm. however the accompanying lightning strikes are expected to cause many more spot fires and gusty winds are expected to continue thru tuesday as this storm system moves out. afternoon T-storms are called for today and Monday........livestock recovered from the evacuated homes are being kept at the faigrounds in Hamilton, and fundraisers are providing for the upkeep . anyone wishing to donate is encouraged to use the Gofundme page HAY FOR HORSES, find them on facebook too-same name...this fund is providing shelter, food, and other supplies to all the displaced livestock.
