While I am storing up emergency supplies at the house, I also started to put together a bug out bag and would like your ideas for what to include.

Here's what I have so farSome items would be used to shelter in place too. Slingshot? Blowgun? [8D]

    Hand crank radio maybe?
Small hatchet-again maybe-depending on the amount of room you have,
    small sharpening stone
Hotties--not the women but those small hand warmer packs-they can keep your hands and feet warm for hours and they are small & lightweight.
I'd put your spare shells in a MTM plastic box to keep them dry as possible.

I'm just now getting mine redone as well-picked up a nice military style backpack at a yardsale for $7 and the thing has tons of room.

Thanks all. Good ideas. I'm adding the following:

More TP, cash, coin, and silver coin
Will seal ammo in seal meal bags with desicant
    More lighters
Machete or hatchet (just need to decide which)
    Multi-tool
Build up more cash, coin and silver coin

I'm surprised I didn't include a multi-tool. Maps are always in the truck. I'm going to see what neets to be kept dry and use seal a meal bags.

I like the idea of flares. Any one know if 12ga flares are still made?

    Hoping others respond too.

I'm to old to run, forgot how to hide. My wife only has a three month supply of drugs.I could run to my brother in laws large cabin in the mountains or to my son in laws cabin further north, but my wife would still need her meds. I'll hang out here and hope i can raid the drug store.[xx(]

Why would you want to carry two pistols in different calibers? Would it not make more sense for them to at least be the same caliber if not the same thing so the mags interchange?

    Don't have a "bug-out bag."

I have planned my life so that, no matter what SHTF scenario materialized, I don't need to go somewhere else. So everything I need to be comfortable is right here.

Being a 19th Century man, I don't need a 15,000 kw generator to keep the lightss on and the fish tank aerated. I can run the computer from the car, and have enoough kerosene to read by until I turn 80.

Life is good now. It will be just as good when the worst happens.

Because I havent bought a compact .45 yet. I have 2 Kimber ProCarry II's but one is a house gun and one is a primary sidearm. The 9mm is what stays in the truck full time. I'm getting there.

victorj19: Seal-a-meal (and most other plastic bags) are not truly waterproof. Instead, use mylar bags. With some experimentation, those can be heat-sealed, and they are waterproof. You can also find zip-lock mylar bags with impregnated anti-corrosion compounds on the inside.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Airmung,

I already have mylar bags for food storage. I'm not too worried about using the seal a meal bags and some silica gel. They've worked well in the past. When my BOB is is storage in the house, I'm not concerned. It's during the trip that concerns me.

Incidently, bought the buckshot loads, a couple of watch caps and the 22 LR ammo today at a gun show. Looked at a $5 machette and passed (too fragile) Looked at the Gerber machette too but passed for now.

    It's coming together.
