What to do with small room

RustyBonesRustyBones Member Posts: 4,956
edited June 2015 in General Discussion
The house we are buying has a small downstairs office, maybe 6x6. The wife has generously given me this room to do with as I please. Any ideas on what to use it for?

The safe will be upstairs in my office.
Being ground floor with a window I don't really want any guns laying about.

If all else fails I can make it the mother in law suite. [}:)]

Off of the living room, nowhere near an entry, the kitchen, garage, etc.

6x6 is pretty small. Put up a lot of ventilated shelving and make it your dedicated first aid/toiletry/emergency supply storage. Stock up on needed essentials with a looooong shelf-life. Use the oldest stuff first (once you get a 1 - 2 year supply built...) and replace item when you normally do your shopping. Place newly purchased replacement item at back of line. This will keep your 1 - 2 year supply current.
I have a 5x6 closet that I use for this purpose. It is satisfying to know that I am self-sufficient (in this regard) for a goodly amount of time if hard times arise.

Ya know - on second thought..... That is a really nice small room. The window will let in too much light/heat for long-ish term storage. The closet I use is in a cool basement corner where I can keep it dark.
Here ya go - Tell your wife to pick out new curtains for her new sewing/craft room. In about two weeks start dropping VERY subtle hints about a certain firearm you've been eyeing. She'll get the hint...

Since it is right off the living room, take the door off. Make a personal media room out of it, put in some shelves. Books, dvds etc. May even fit a chair in there is you wanna look out the window and read. Or, put your wood working skills to work, make a nice recessed book shelf in the door gap, and make a hidden room for your stash of worldly treasures.

    Thanks for all the input.
If I get mud that far into the house, I am already in big troubleI live in Ga, so if I want a sauna I will just walk outside [:D]Too small for a man cave. I am planning on building a shop out back to suit the reloading/man cave role
I'm thinking a murphy door would be fun, and initially using it for a small reading room.
