I ended up getting the JVC gz-hm320 HD Everio.

I played with it at the store a little before I bought it and it seems to do all I need it to do and has a great picture on it's playback. It records in full 1080P High Definition in full dolby digital stereo and gets almost 3 hours of recording on 1 32gb SD card

My main purpose for wanting it is to make DVD's of my daughter playing softball to send off to college recruters in hope of getting her a good scholarship.

I got the camera with an extra long life battery, 1 SD card and carry case for $400

congrats on your new camera! learn all its functions and keep it on the tripod for the recruiters. just watch the local news and copy the shots the professional videographers use. highlight footage should be clear and simple. a fluid head tripod works best but you can manage to get the cheap ones to work pretty good too.

since you are shooting softball, see if your camera will let you adjust how many frames per second it will render. shoot at its fastest fps and when you slow it down, it will look more fluid.

did you pick a program to edit the video with yet?

But if I absolutely have to I can probly get some friends to help me with the editing prosses that are alot more computer savy than I am.

Good ideal on getting your daughter a scholarship as this will pay for the camera. My daughter ran cross country and distant track events in high school and went to the state events in all four from her freshman year through senior year, the only person in her school to ever do so. She did get a college scholarship that help out a lot and now she is a RN.

all you really need for the recruiters is a jump cut edit. you can do that with home recording equipment.

editing will be fun to do with your daughter since she knows what looks good and all.

i was paid hundreds of dollars to do simple promo videos for all sorts of athletes. what it comes down to is the talent, photographer and simple editing. keep it simple. music is not needed but can help or hurt depending on the recruiter. transitions should all be the same, dip to color or fade. the total time should be no longer than 2 minutes.

dvd is what you will need to print it on.

practice shooting! copy the best! watch sports news if you have a good station and copy them!

    good luck!
