I Got Fired Today

I am not surprised at all.

My employers somehow found out I had applied to a rival company, actually a few of them.

Things just came to a head yesterday, today was the aftermath.

I'm OK with it, I need a little time to regroup, but we are in good financial shape, so we'll do OK.

I walked off the job back in the fall, and I knew then that this was not the place I was going to retire from.

It was all done in a professional manor, handed final check and wished good luck.

So, we'll see how things go.

Consider it a short vacation,.....you'll be back to work before you know it.

You needed to change employers anyway.

YOu did well. If they wanted to keep you they would have made it a little sweeter for you which means they did not care for you or your work with their company. Some companys get crappy when they find out your looking around.

Been there... AND Done that... Just glad that you and your employer were able to maintain a since of professionalism at this moment in your life...

Once you've had an incident or issue that makes you begin to look for a job elsewhere, It's best to follow through and find gainful employment somewhere else...

Glad to hear that you've thoughtfully placed yourself in a good financial position to make the decision... Many people (and I'll go ahead and put myself in this group) react before they think... Leaving without a care only to find they should have waited a short time first and either put enough funds up to carry them through or find another job first and then leave...

Enjoy your short vacation and the new found direction in your life!

you handled it much better than I, I have been fired twice in my ife both times from jobs I planned to quit anyway but still I wanted to tell them, "you can't fire me, I quit". One of those jobs I had tried to quit several times and they kept talking me into staying. LOL but I was still bent when they said "we need to make some changes around here" and I found myself begging to keep a job I didn't even want.
I still think there is plenty of work out there for people who genuinely want to work and you sound like a good guy so I have a hunch you will be back at work before you've gotten bored of being home. (good time to get the chores around the house done too) good luck!

If you are OK with it, it was probably a good thing. So was leaving with no hard feelings. May all prove to be a blessing in the longer run. I lost mine 3 years ago, not so voluntarily, and the change still improved my life.Good luck.

Being fired means you can draw 'unemployment'. Had you quit none would be offered. Enjoy for a time. Then start looking. Gives you a little extra moola for finding a Quality job for your family[^]

yes, I can file to collect in PA. If I said "I quit", I would not be able to collect.

I'll file Monday, but I don't plan to sit home for a long time either.

I got fired for similar reason back in 1979. Working for one company in an industrial park. Pay was $5. PH. Haliburton (in same park) was firing for much better pay. One Friday afternoon after work, boss saw me pull into Haliburton to check on my app.
Next Monday AM he asks me why I went there. I told the truth. He tells me I have one week at his place, then will be fired. Intends to hire and train replacement during week. Next day brings in new hand, assigns to my job. Assigns me punishment job of washing his/his wifes cars (Hers was NEW). I was done w/his, almost done w/hers when he caught me washing them w/COMET. Fired on the spot. But got hired at Haliburton few days later. [:D][}:)]

If you can draw unemployment in your state, that's cool and I'm glad for you. If you are fired or quit in this state, you MAY be eligible for unemployment but it depends on the reason. Generally no.

That's (mostly) incorrect. I have not heard of a state that doesn't allow unemployment for being fired. It is a myth.

Everything happens for a reason.. Some of the best things that ever happened to me was getting fired or laid off.. Best of luck to ya..

Remember fired is different than laid off. Laid off mean lack of work. Being fired generally has a reason. Depending on the reason they may or may not allow a claim. Someone stealing or doing some other illegal activity does not qualify. However most employers just don't want to go through the hassles of a determination hearing and just list fired without cause.

I heard on KRLD (local dallas radio) yesterday that all the newer digital fax and copiers store copies of what you send or copy and employers can have the IT dept to pull these images and see whats being sent or recieved. What a crock of $h1t this is. Maybe this happened to you?

Other folks knew your plans because you shared. Never a good thing to do even w/ your closest friends. One other possibility was that the new job contacted your current employeer. That is a contact option that you should have been able to choose when applying. Hope things go well.
It's too late for me, save yourself.
