Terrific guns really, under appreciated I think.

I have the 649 in 5.5", also a 1980. Came in handy a time or two, once seriously so.

Mine is on the short list of guns I will never sell.

    Thanks!
Lots of time invested in finding the "right" pieces to fit the group.
1980 is the DOM I am after.
No real reason, I just found that I had a few, and set a goal of getting one of every model manufactured,
I will never fulfill this goal, but it's good to have a plan!
Here's a few more, not all 1980, but, still favorites of mine.
This is most of mine, let's see some more guys!

I had rather limited funds all those years ago when I bought my 649. I wanted several other models they had in the shop. Case hardened frames, long barrels, break tops, target sights ... Oooooo Pretty !!!

Stayed in budget then and pleased with what I bought. But doggone it I wish I'd of just skipped eating for a while and bought one of each!!!!

Now I cannot own one cuz JamesJo has filled his house with them all [:(]

At least all the one's pretty enough to take gun porn photos of [:D]

    Lucky dog [:p]

    Chris,
I don't have that many! At least not enough.
I wish I would have had a clue years ago too,
back when I made a lot of money, and blew it all on partying and fun.
I could have been buying NIB H&R's for $ 100, and even less.
I'd now have a room full instead of what I do have.
Oh well, I guess I always had a good time!
    Let's see that 649!

Quite an impressive collection, sir! Thanks for posting these. I really love those things. Only other one I have is an old long-barrel Topper, but don't have a picture of that one handy.

The top left one in my pic posted on the other thread is the only Sportsman or 999 I've seen for sale in this area in many, many years. Well, shucks, I'll just repost the pic here:

    Old_guns_1.jpg

It's just like the top right one, which was my Dad's. Sad to say, that one is not a shooter any more -- by the time I acquired it it had been fired with an obstruction (I'm guessing) and now has a bulge halfway down the barrel. Was really happy to find a shooter to go with it. Many fond memories of plinking with Dad & brother back in ancient history.

As ChrisInTempe says, they really are underappreciated generally, but there is a small group of serious collectors out there. And I wish I had started looking for more years ago, too, while they were still relatively cheap.

    Thanks Mark,
I figured the only H&R's you had any use for were the M-1's!

    Goatroper,
I think there is a barrel listed in revolver parts right now that will fit your O.O.O. Sportsman.
Otherwise check out Numrich Gun Parts.
Would be nice to see you get it up and running again!

Ya know, I had never even thought parts would still be available, but I reckon I'll have to take a look. I've thought my Dad's Sportsman would pass to my nephew, who knew him better than any of his grandkids. Would be great to pass him a shooter.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
