Latest garage sale finds

Couple of hard shell pistol cases $2 each, plastic scoped rifle case $5, new container of butane camping fuel for free.

Best find for the day was an 8" Henckels chefs knife and a 6" Henckels for $10 each and they were brand new. I think I will go back to his sale if he is open tomorrow as he had more of these brand new Henckels knives

Day 2

Went back today and picked up 6 more knives. I'm set in the knife dept for years I think.

Best find today was a Big Berkey water purifier with extra filter cartridges for $50. Was planning on getting one anyway and saved about $150 getting the garage sale version.

Anyone else get out to the sales this weekend?

The only real deal I've ever found was an Ithaca 37 Featherweight for $125, and that was 20+ years ago.
Most of the garage/yard sales in this area have women's/kids clothing and toys. Once in a blue moon I'll luck into one or two men's shirts in good enough condition to cut the sleeves off of for work shirts.

    You have to ask!

I've scored lots of times by walking up, looking around and as I was starting to walk off, I would ask them if they had any "Big Boy Toy's, like hunting, camping, old military stuff?

I've gotten a lot of their Grandpas "Old Junk"!

3 years ago I picked up a Winchester model 12 with a 30 inch barrel with a full choke, now 24 inch. 12 gauge chambered for 2-3/4 inch shells. Solid rib and made in 1943. Not much use, but sat in a garage for many years, so it had some fine surface rust. The rust cleaned up pretty good and it could use the stock refinished, but I will probably leave it as is for the time being. It is for home and woods walking protection. Cost was $125.00 which I thought was a steal. Parts alone are worth a lot more. There was other rifles and shotguns at the sale, but most were total junk. Parts missing and just plain worn out. My second best find was a Hercules 12 gauge single shot in excellent condition that I later traded for a Winchester model 67 youth model 22 that is my wife's favorite to shoot. I buy hundreds of tools each year for my tool hoard.

I guy I know likes garage sales. A few years ago he saw an old beer mug filled with pens and pencils. He gave a buck for it. Took it home and cleaned it up and it was silver with some swastikas on it. He threw it in the saddle bag on his bike and used it for drinking beer at keg parties. That winter he took it to a gun show it try and sell it. He got $500 for it. It had been the property of a German Ace presented to him by Hitler.

You did good! The only gun stuff I saw this weekend was a box of 30-30 that the guy wanted full retail value for. Not counting the gun cases that is.[:)]

I found two 57 year old German Wirgin Edixa 35 mm cameras each with collectible lenses. One camera doesn't work at all shutter speeds but its prism finder is worth more that what I paid in total.

The good part is up on eBay.

Six weeks back I got a 1938 Leica IIIb for 150. But the lens just happened to be a Leitz Xenar Taylor Hobson f1.5. That is $900 to 1400 on eBay. I knew before I left thanks to my cell phone.

I wanted to take out the 2005 Lincoln LS for a test ride this morning...

I have added some gear and made some more mods over the last year and have not driven it much / been focused on the cancer battle...

Cat back performance exhaust with resonator tips (both sides) (from rock auto)

Front and rear sway bars and one that crosses the engine compartment

    Positraction - (rear lockers)

Toyo house brand performance street fighter tires - offset (bigger in the back than in the Front (on factory alloy wheels)

MSD ignition box - new plugs and wires (matched performance set)

Fiaa mini tear drop foglights - projector lenses with outer perimeter LED light rings

In dash mounted radar and laser detector

Bearcat scanner that monitors emergency service and Leo channels

CB radio transmitter and receiver and antenna

Bosch - rain X wiper blades and fluid

3 supplementary gauges on the B pillar (all auto meter)

3 supplementary gauges under the dash - center stack

Ford performance D.U.I. performance distributor system

    EBC Kevlar performance brake pads

Pro 90 series 1300 front bucket seats (procar by Scot)

Classic braid kits to keep wiring routed and secured

    Transmission oil cooler

    Optima redtop battery

Twin can oil filter set up

Oversized electric radiator fan and shroud

K&N cold air - forced air - ram air induction set up with conical filter charger element

Etc... (Mostly little things - DIY projects)

I was feeling pretty good this morning so I grabbed one of my go packs and the dog and went for an early morning drive

Stopped at several yard sales and church outdoor sales and garage sales
Found 5 brand new / still in the box herters axe heads

One medium sized double end logger style

2 small blade edge / hammer edge camping style

2 small blade edge / pipe edge trail style

Brand new in the original boxes - no handles - very light surface rust - handling marks - fondling finger prints

    Never mounted - never sharpened

Paid $50.00 cash for the whole lot and the woman through in a curved Skinner's knife with impressed / embossed leather sheath (all marked Herters)

Also picked up a 1960's vintage Coleman gas lantern (red) in superb mint condition - unused with 4 fuel canisters and 12 extra wicks
    Paid $20.00 for it

Picked up a dozen pairs all steel heavy duty scissor with black painted handles - all made in made in Germany

Brand new perfect unused condition - not even surface rust (wrapped in silicon cloths and heavy waxed brown butcher paper

    Paid $30.00 for the lot

I think I did OK - I think I purchased some good vintage items and super low prices

I had the opportunity to beat on and test out the Lincoln's mods on the street

The dog got to go for a ride several times - got to meet new people and 2 new dogs and one goat...

He managed to mooch a bunch of treats and snacks

I now have a bunch of projects to play with

I think I did pretty good - I think the Lincoln drove pretty well / let's call it a mild pro street - mild custom daily driver.

Please tell me if you think I did OK - please tell me what you think about the mods on the Lincoln

BTW - need to clean dog slobber off of the drivers side of the car - he spent much of the time with his head out the window.

Spent the rest of the day exhausted and tired but happy - if I am lucky the week goes in the same direction.

Yep, you hit on two of the items I list off to garage sale hosts. Axes/hatchets and Coleman gear. You reminded me I also picked up a Coleman cooler for $3 yesterday .

I have been getting my new workshop up and running for the last year or so and have been on the look out for several related items.

Have checked what things cost new these days and most of the stuff is not only over priced but made very cheaply in China[xx(].

Hit a big barn sale where the owner was selling his place over the Memorial Day weekend.

Looked about at all the stuff in his pole barn and started to leave.
Guy comes up to me and asks what I was looking for.

Told him I needed a nice bench vise and he had me follow him into his other outbuilding\garage.

He had an old Craftsman heavy 4.5 IIRC mounted on his bench.

    I said perfect, how much? 10 bucks.[:p]

As he was removing the 10 dollar vise, I noticed another big side mounting very HD vise under his bench along with a 1 ton chain fall that was on the floor across the garage.

Offered him another 50 dollars for both and came home with the 2 vise's and chain fall, total spent....60 dollars![8D][:p]
