The ban doesn't start until sometime in 2019.

But even then, if you request one they can give it to you. The ban only states that they can't give it to you without asking you if you want one

Was at a restaurant in my area recently and they switched from plastic straws to some type of paper straw.

What a piece of crap. It is fine if you drink your drink in 5 minutes or less if not the straw melts and it is useless.

Being the entrepreneur that I am, gonna start making and marketing permanent BAMBOO straws just for California! Think I'll call it "The Last Straw" [:0][:D]

Can also be used as an emergency catheter when flow becomes a problem.

Just have to deal with and work out all of the splinter complaints so far.[:o)]

So what do the Hollywood elite do with their Peruvian nose candy...

Doing a line without a straw is so gauche.

Will the TSA search your luggage - DOT border crossing checkpoints...

What about medicinal straws - do you get an ID card and purchase state sponsored straws at a licensed dispensary???

I was out there a month ago for a little working vacation with the bride to be. I like how they ask you if you would like a bag with your items. California might be crazy but those plastic shopping bags are dang near bullet proof.

It'll soon be a status symbol to show up with your own silver yerba mate straw from Argentina.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

They already make a good straw that is compostable. It is make from corn. We have to use it at some fairs in our area as they have banned all non-compostable containers.

    Here is an example:
