.22 question.

My friend bought an old Stevens Model 15 .22 single shot. Rifle is marked that it is chambered for the .22LR. He has some shorts he wants to shoot thru it and thinks it's OK. I'm not so sure.
So...can you shoot .22 shorts in a rifle marked .22LR?

I imagine there would be no problem. As long as the gun is in good working order.

Yes you can shoot them. There are two downsides to shooting shorts in a LR chambered weapon- 1. You will get a ring of crud in the chamber in front of the shorter case mouth, which may make loading LR ammo difficult. Just clean the thing. 2. Autoloaders usually will not function other than as a single shot- but for singles, bolts, levers and pumps, a non issue.
