S&W Model 64 in .357 magnum

I recently obtained a Smith and Wesson model 64-1 that is marked on the barrel as a .357 magnum. The cylinder accepts .357 magnum ammunition and the revolver shoots just fine. It is a stainless revolver with a heavy, pinned barrel. The model 64 is supposed to be a .38 Special. Any idea as to if this is a limited production run gun or any info on its history? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

    mppd,

Per "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd edition"

Model 64-1, Oklahoma Highway patrol Commemerative, 750 made in 1973, 4" heavy barrel, chambered in 357 Mag. as a prototype for the Model 65, no known markings.

    Hope this helps, Jim
