FBI Commemorative Revolver

Any idea what an S&W 5" model 27 FBI commemorative revolver is worth?

It has the FBI seal engraved in the side plate and the words "1934 Federal Bureau of Investigation 1984" on the right side of the barrel. On the left side of the frame, below the cylinder it has "FBI" engraved. All engraving is gold filled. It is in excellent, unfired condition and the cylinder has not been turned.

It has a wooden presentation box, with the FBI seal carved on the top as well as the original S&W cardboard box and a letter and envelope, issued with the revolver, explaining the history of the FBI's authority to carry weapons and the model 27.

Technically, what you have is a "special edition", not a "commemorative". The difference is, a commemorative is cataloged by the manufacturer & available through all distributors, while a special edition is a one-time order by an individual, group, or distributor.

There is little collector interest in special editions. In most cases, they are worth about the same as the "plain" version of a gun, plus or minus 10%. If you are lucky enough to find a group member looking for your particular gun, you may do better than that.
