If you want to make a SBS do you have to go through the same steps like you would for a SBR with the BATFE?
Also if you wanted to go back to a long barrel instead of alway's using your short barrel can you do that? Or do you have to keep the short barrel on at all times?
Thanks.

yes, the same tax stamp is needed for the SBS as the SBR. It is the reciever that is registered, and you can put any barrel length you want on it. You just cant sell it for an over the counter shotgun now. It has to be an NFA transfer.

To make one you do need to fill out a Form 1 just like for the SBR. You can put any BBL length you want on it after that, but it will still be an SBS from a legal standpoint. Make sure you have your approved form with you even if it has 18" + barrel(s) on it.

You CAN sell it as a standard shotgun (with 18"+ BBL) if you have it taken off the NFA list. To do that all you have to do is submit a letter requesting to have your firearm removed.
