A friend of mine (and his friends) are going to build an AK from scratch - despite my "Just buy the damn thing" advice. They have access to metal bending and manufacturing equipment through their heating & AC business, but that's where their knowledge ends. Are there any good kits or kits to avoid, what do they consist of and are there any sites or pointers anyone wants to give?

There are a lot of ak-47 builder forums out there for info. and hundreds of guy's willing to help you learn the ropes!You might find someone in your area that has all the tooling and jig's needed. Do lot's of research buy a DVD on building an ak and watch it many times to get familiar with the gun and it's very few parts.
