32 Smith Wesson side plate

I can't figure out how to get the side plate back on a old Smith. Never saw one like this, it has a spring loaded small pin that presses against the arm that rotates the cylinder. No way to hold pin back, that I see, while putting side plate back on. Help

I don't know about that gun, but there are many times that I have used
a thin feeler gage {.002"] as a tool to allow a assy. to slide down and depress a spring/ plunger as it goes in.
Like a shoe horn action.

It would be way more helpful if you could provide a model number or a pic. Hand or pawl are the common name for the arm. Scotch tape sometimes will hold thing in place, then pulled out before fully pressing the cover in place.

Had a senior moment and could not thank of the name "hand". I will try the tape method, just wonder how the factory did it? Thanks

revolver is a early swing out cylinder in 32 SW

It sounds like you have a 1903 Hand Ejector in 32 Long.
There are a number of variations between 1903 and 1940 and later a different model.
If you post the s/n we can tell what variation you have and better help you.
