wanting to know about price range on 30 wcf 1894 with a octagon barrel.

    I know that the 30-30 was originaly loaded with lead bullets. (1) What was the wieght, (2) Are there any molds that duplicte the original? Thanks.

    Actually, the 30 W.C.F. was originally loaded with "metal patched" (jacketed) 170 grain FP bullets. Cast bullet loads were also available with reduced powder charges (and corresponding lower velocities). I believe that Lyman makes the bullet mold you want.

    Bert: givette here. Is that .30 WCF fmj you refered to the same as the "ball" ammo that occasionally pops-up at gunshows in old military packaging?

    No, and I was not referring to FMJ. Winchester referred to their early JFP (jacketed flat point) ammo as "metal patched". The 30-30 Ball ammoo was made circa WW I.

    Back in the 40's a survey was taken asking hunters which caliber and bullet gave the best "one shot" kills on deer...the second highest was the 30-30...but surprising was WITH "150 GRAIN" BULLETS! The 30-06 came in first.

    One shot kills are bullet placement.
