Is the 16 gauge 870 forend the same size as the 12 gauge?

In other words, are they interchangeable. I have one for sale and a potential customer has a 16 and wants to know if the 12 gauge one I have will work.

Anyone know for sure? I know longer have a 16 to check it against.

Remington has changed the shape of many 870/1100 parts over time. There is no guaranty that any of their shotgun parts are interchangeable, even for the same EXACT model.

Do not waste your time asking Remington; they are caught between ignorance & apathy. (That is, they don't know, & they don't care.)

I used a 12ga 870 3" Express forearm on an old 16ga Wingmaster. It fits, but there's a little more space between barrel and wood.
