    I am new to this and accidently hir the post button before I had the text in.
    As you see in the photo's from the last posting. I acquired this gun a couple of weeks ago after my brother and I (finally), 10 years after his death split up some of his belongings. This old gun was always one of my favorites. It hung on the wall at my parents house since the mid 60's. I remember as a kid jgoing with my dad and retreiving it from my great uncle's farm after he passed on. I do know that his father, {my great grand father brought it with them from Germany when they immigrated here in the late 1800's. I would like to know more history on this and an approximate value. I have done searches and have come up empty. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Galen

    Welcome to the forum. Four wheels, blue, has FORD on it. What can you tell me? As you can see, to give you an accurate answer, a bit more information would be needed. Don't pick out a Mercedes yet, but unless 1864 is the serial number, it must mean a year. Hummmm. In 1864 the American Civil War was winding down. What could C.S. stand for? Confederate States? As there are a bunch of fakes out there, you would need someone to do a hands on look see. Until that happens, don't open any paint cans with it or use it as a pry bar. Good luck.

    Welcome to the board Henrichel! As P3SkyKing says more information is needed. You don't even say if it is a rifle or revolver. Much more detailed information is needed to nail it down, and then likely a hands on by an expert to tell you if it is authentic or not. Information you could/should include would be: caliber, all markings or stamps, including under the grips, forend stock etc. If a pistol. what are the grip slabs made of. Length of barrel, type of action, i.e. falling block, bolt, rolling block, revolver etc. Sounds like a really nice little mystery, and maybe a really nice gun. Keep us informed!

    SORRY, FORGOT TO MENTION I THINK RIFLE.STOCK HAS SOME BRASS (I THINK )METALLIC SLEEVE UNDER BARREL FOR HANDGUARD.BIGGEST ODD FEATURE IT HAS A CONVEX TRIGGER THAT WORKS WHEN PUSHED FORWARD.NO OTHER MARKINGS I CAN FIND OTHER THAN C.S. 1864 ON TOP OF BARREL. RAMROD IS WOOD WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE BRASS ALSO. THANKS

    henrichel;
    It could be any number of guns built in that era. If you can, post a photo of the gun. Close up of lock, trigger, any markings and the bore. The push trigger rings a bell, but, I won't know anything certain without a few pics. Indentifing old guns of this period can be difficult with them in hand. Due to the number of makers, established or unheard of, and the number of forgeries, from crude to near perfect, lose of markings to handling rust and modification. I have an idea of what it MIGHT be, as I said, We'll need to see some clear sharp photos to be reasonably certain.
