Would a hiwall (1885) made in 1907 have a blued receiver? Thanks.

    Yes, it most certainly should have a blued receiver frame. That said, are you absolutely sure that it was made in 1907? If you relied on Madis' or Campbell's serial number listing to date your rifle, be advised that their published information is horribly inaccurate[xx(].

    For further edification, Winchester stopped case color hardening the Model 1885 receiver/frame as the standard finish circa 1902. By the time the coil-spring action replaced the flat-spring action in March of 1908, case color finishing of the frame was no longer even a special order option. The breech block, hammer, lever, trigger, and butt plate were case color hardened until 1918.
