I was wondering if anyone knows for sure how this ammuniton would workd for deet hunting. I was considering trying it in either a .357 or .44 magnum and keeping the shots under 50yds. The reason I am asking is that I don't reload and have 2 Ruger revolvers pretty much zeroed in with this ammuniton. Seeing as the cost of some of the speciality ammunition is so high I don't care to resight these revolvers in again. Both of the Blazer rounds I am using are Jacketed hollow points 158gr and 240gr. I know this ammunition isn't considered the best there is but would it work properly for what I want. I was hoping someone else out there has already tried it and could tell me how it performed[?]

I assume you are hunting deer as deet are on the endangered species list.[:D]

Check the manufacturers charts for the ballistic info on their Blazer ammo. I have used their .44mag, 9mm, and .357mag and found it to shoot just fine. I have not used it on game so dont know how it penetrates and expands on different animals.

At the ranges I have used Blazer, its accuracy has been acceptable.

i have never used blazer for anything but target use, however i would guess that it would be just fine to use especially for the range you intend to shoot within. just my opinion. good luck

    Hello ".22L.R."[:)]

There is nothing wrong with Blazer ammo for hunting deer. As you have already mentioned you don't intend to take a pop at anything beyond 50 yards.

I personally would not use Blazer ammo on hogs. They are much tougher to bring down than a deer. Also I would nothing less than .44 magnum.
You don't want be be in a ground blind with 400 pounds of pissed off hog in there with you. It will ruin your whole day.

    Best Regards[8D]

The performance would depend on the bullet. Most of the ballistics I've seen on the Blazer indicated they were about equal to other factory loads. Most of the bullets are standard construction with similar performance. I use some hoarded Blazer 9mm with the 124 grain Gold Dot in my carry gun and have used it to put down some road hit deer with excellent results. On the other hand, I've heard stories about the Blazer 44 mag being hard to extract. Now that might be a factor of gun care or condition as I've never had a malfunction with 9mm.

Observation: Rossi '92 w/blazer .44Mag had a lot of ejection stovepipes. Norma/Rem/Win...no problems.

Also, the Blazer seemed to have a milder recoil/lower report than the other .44Mag's. Possibly a lower pressure loading due to the split case configuration? Dunno. Again, just an observation. Joe

I used 9MM Blazer in an AR, and it would not eject properly. I've never had a problem with it in pistols. For hunting I think I'd rather stick with revolvers with this ammo.
