Was the M-74 ever drilled and tapped from the factory and, if so, aproximately when did they start?

Was the winchester 74 auto .22LR ever offered in any other finish other than blue? I just acquired one in an estate sale that dosen't show any evidence of ever being blued anywhere on the gun. The finish appears to have been a high polish or some type of plating other than chrome. According to the serial number the gun was made in 1941

They were all blued. The finish you are looking at is most likely nickel-plating.

Would that be considered factory, is it rare and how does it affect the value?

You did not read (understand) my first reply... all Model 74s were factory blued. The nickel plating is not factory, and as such, there is no "rarity" question. As for how it affects the value, it reduces it by a minumum of 50%.
