SKS Issue

Hey guy's I'm in a bit of a bind, my dad tried to replace the rear sight spring in my SKS, I wasn't there when he did it, he inadvertently ended up essentially flattening the entire spring. I included a picture below, I for the life of me cannot seem to get the thing out. So long story short I was wondering if you guys might have any suggestions as to how to get the thing out of there, I guess worst case scenario is I take it to a gunsmith, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't have to do that..

The sight block is slotted, the spring slides in from the front. Take a small hammer and a punch, put the punch in that little indent on the spring at a sharp forward angle and tap with the hammer. That little dimple engages a small hole in the sight block to keep it retained. AK's use a similar setup.
I actually tried that, but the thing didn't seem to want to budge, I'll give it another shot though, unfortunately all my tools are in storage so I'm working with limited hardware, again I really appreciate the input.
