I need a little expert help,I just purchased a mint condition 1896 Swedish mauser in 6.5x55 all parts match except the rear sight wherein might be my problem. At 100 yards the rifle shoots a very tight group but 5" high and 3" right.I can drift the front sight to correct the windage but the rear sight is all the way down.At 300 yards this would be great but I'm limited to a 100 yd range. Is there anyting I can do or just be happy shooting a tight group 5"high? If this is normal for this rifle then I won't worry about it. Thanks in advance.

Simple. Get a higher front sight blade. I'm surprised, most Swedes had a high blade to begin with. But otherwise, it is a very common problem with milsurp rifles. I have a few that shoot 2-3 FEET high! You might also try different bullet weights and so forth. Generally a lighter bullet will shoot a bit flatter.

Can't find the article but it is my recollection the Swedes screwed with sights when they went from 156 grain bullets to the 139 grainers.
My rear sight number also doesnt match the gun and the front blade has a 0 stamped in the side.I've never shot it so dont know where it shoots.
You can change the front blade to a higher one
