Olympic has been around since 1976 in the state of Washington. They are excellent rifles for the price IMHO. They claim to be the only maker of the AR type rifles to make all parts in the their own factory there in Olympia. Im sure youll get several opinions on these . CAnt answer your second question. Hope this helps.

I'm trying to get a 9mm upper (wife's pregnant so it's on back burner right now). From everything I've read on AR15.com, the Oly pistol uppers are great, and the oly's the only currently produced upper that allows use of unmodified sten mags (cheap mags!) with the socom mag block (www.socommfg.com/9adapt.htm). You can check with Stokes (moderator)on AR15.com as he also seems to have the best price on Oly uppers (from all the places I've checked, and that's a lot of places). As for the plinker, most people seem to think it's not built to usual Olympic standards. You should be able to find all the info you need on AR15.com though.

I would go with the PCR rather than the Plinker. It cost a little more, but the quality is excellent. However, all Olympic arms firearms a warranted for life, so even if the plinker is lower quality, you would be covered if something should ever break.

When I was shoppin for an AR I looked at the Plinker. It's really cheap feeling, looking, & sounding. The ones I have seen, all the controls rattled. The safety selector was loose. Overall the quality was very poor. Now the Olympic PCR rifles look alot better.

I would recommend you get yourself a Rock River. I have their carbine midlength handguard version & am very pleased with it. I've owned a Bushmaster in the past & can say that the Rock Rive is everything the Bushmaster is.

Prices are going up on Rock Rivers but are still in reach. Check out these:
