This morning I shot 18 rounds through a La pietta 1851 colt. I hadn't shot it in 4 years and now, with the wedge removed, I cant get the cylinder out. what did I forget??

The barrel uses the wedge to hold it onto the frame Use the loading lever with the cylinder 1/2 indexed between chambers this will push the barrel off the frame and allow you to slide the cylinder off the front of the frame.

If you didn't clean and lube it correctly 4 years ago, the cylinder pin might be frozen in place by rust. Black powder residue attracts moisture, which intern causes rusting. I would soak the cylinder pin with WD 40 or kroil for at least 24 hours, before proceeding as Perry Shooter suggested.
