I am interested in purchasing a Remington Model 8 or 81 Police Special with the extended magazine. They are very difficult to locate, but I have a lead on a Model 81. It is supposedly in 85+% condition, but I have yet to see it. Can any of the experts tell me what I should expect to pay for one of these rifles? I tried the search fuction, but had no luck. Thanks for your help.

It is a Model 81, .35 Rem with a 15 round magazine. The gun comes with one mag. It was made in 1942 and the receiver is stamped with the PD that owned it.

From the info that I gathered from the owner, the receiver is marked "Police Special" on the left side. He did not mention any markings on the magazine. What should be stamped on it?

Thanks for the info. As I am new to the Remington 81 market, what dollar amount should I offer for the rifle?

Thanks to all the members for their help. I did end up purchasing the rifle. It is a legitimate Model 81 Special Police with matching 15 round magazine, extended forearm, and sling swivels. It is in beautiful shape. It was a former LA County Sheriffs Dept. Gun and is so marked on the receiver. Date code indicates January, 1942 production. Thanks again for your input.
