Been looking at new .223's and found a NIB "Saiga" .223 rifle w/ detachable 5rd mag for $389.00
Does anyone know anything about Saiga brand?
Thanks

AK type rifle, made in Russia. Good stuff.

You can convert them to the standard AK look by doing some parts swapping and making sure you are 922r compliant. High cap mags are available but expensive...

I've got one in 7.62 x 39. It is every bit an AK clone for reliability. The wood is cheap looking, but strong and functional. The barrel is perhaps light for an AK clone, but it is reasonably accurate, 3" five round groups at 100 yards are normal.

5 years ago it was under $ 250.00, and the .223 were, I believe, more expensive. $ 389.00 does not seem unreasonable, but as noted, you will want to price out magazines.

Are they any better or worse then Ruger's mini 14 for accuracy? Between the Saiga and a mini 14 I'd rather have the mini, not to say I'd wouldn't rather have a AR15 over either. If you want an AK, buy an AK, it is hard to beat the 7.62x39 cartridge and there are lots of aftermarket stuff to change the AK around after the fact.....
