What year did the 30-30 cal. come out? I have a Marlin model 1893 with the serial number of 9405. When I look it up it says the year of manufacture is 1885. I didn't think the 30-30 cal. came out until the 1890's. Can anyone please answer. Thank you

I have a Marlin 1893 Lever action 30-30. It has the "Smokeless Steel" printed on the barrel. The serial # is C9405, I'm having a hard time try to get the year of manufacture. I had one site tell me 1885, one guy told me 1947, another said 1904? There is quite a big difference in years. Can anyone help? Thank You

I show first 30-30 1895 Sounds like either your marlin date is incorrect or the rifle has been RE-BARRELED. I show the first model 93 was built 1893. so the date you give of 1885 is 8 years before the first made date[?][?][?]

Better check another reference. I think you'll find the model 1893 is called that because that is the year it came out.
