I own a Winchester model 12 shotgun. I bought it from a fraternity brother in college. It has a serial number of 1422668 and was built in 1954. It is in near perfect condition. It was only fire a few times when I was in college. There are no scratches on the wood and no rust. I was offered $800 as a trade in on a new gun in 1995 while I was still in school, but I was skeptical. I would like to know what the gun is really worth. If any experts out there can give me an idea, I would appreciate it.

we need to know length of barrel and choke also if it has a rib on top of barrel or plain barrel . I suspect you should have taken the $800.00 on trade in 1955 if it is say a plain barrel gun 28 inch Modified choke. You did well to keep it if a pigeon grade Skeet gun with rib.

We need pictures of the gun in order to give you a reasonably close value estimate.

A Winchester Model 12 field grade in 12ga. with a plain 28" modified choke barrel might bring $600.00 today if it is nearly in like-new condition. If you were offered $800.00 trade-in in 1995 I would guess either the dealer was counting on a fair amount of profit from what you were contemplating purchasing, or he was about to make a really big mistake.
