Picked up a bolt action ss Remington 511 Scoremaster in .22LR today for $50 from a lady at work that didn't want it around her house with her grand daughter around (that could be the topic of another thread). Anyway, it has some rust on the barrel. I plan to get the steel wool after it, re-blue it, oil it up, and refinish the stock. However, it is missing the clip. Checked GB--didn't have a clip for sale. Will check Numrich and any other location that you folks might know of for a clip.

Checked out the Remington web page to see mfg dates and couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Many rifles made before 1968 do not have serial numbers and it is hard to date them Remington put letters on many of their barrels that form a code as to date near the receiver 3 letters. DONOT use steel wool rather get some KROIL and keep rusted area wet for 24 -48 hours and then use brass pot scruber to remove loose rust this will not harm the blue that is still there and might surprise you . If you are going to let a gun shop reblue do nothing and let them do it. If you however want a new surface finish then look at BROWNELLS and their spray on GUN finishes . COLD blue looks like crap and does not protect or wear well.

Brownells sells some magazines that are made on the original Remington tooling for about $12 or so. 513's take the same mag. 6 and 10 round are available. Original mags are marked "Remington" on the bottom, the repros have a large "R".

What do you mean by "bolt action ss"?
