Has anyone shot this pretty ammo like Hornady Tap or Winchester Ballistic Silvertips ? They talk a fair game and look nice but has anyone accually shot these? How do they compare with your standard "walmart" cheap(but name brand) rounds? Looking in the .223, .308, and .40cal . Thanks.

Well the diference between Hornaby or black hills .308 168 grain match loads and winchester grey box Walmart deer hunting ammo accuracywise can be profound in a rifle that it is set up for accuracy.. The black box supreme wont even shoot with a good match load..

If I have a Century FAL or G3 or an unmodified siaga 308 regular white box winchester or foreign surplus is what i would use to feed it, Because I dont reload. Yet.

Now If i have an Armilite AR-10T Or a Bull barreled DPMS LR-308 or springfield NM M1a or a bolt gun with a bull or medium weight barrel I'd go with a Expensive load for serious purposes, because that is what the rifle is built for, accuracy..

I have put together some highly accurate hunting rifles for past customers, and always point them in the direction of the Winchester Ballistic Silvertips...nomatter what chambering it is in. The Ballistic Silvertip is nothing but a coated Nosler Ballistic-Tip. They are some of the most accurate non target/match bullets out there. I have not seen a decent rifle that will not consistantly put them under an MOA.

    Jerecole,

I have used Winchester Ballistic Silvertips and find them to be very accurate. From what I've seen on varmints they work. They work a lot better than the Winchester Power-Points.

I haven't paid the price for Hornady Tap ammo, but I have friends who have and have 'unscientifically' tested it, i.e. "What does it do when you shoot a wood post?" They say it works as advertised and is as accurate as they shoot with a pistol.

I carry Hornady Tap in my CCW. I don't know about being pretty, but it is consistently accurate, has low flash and sports the XTP bullet. If the coating on the case makes it feed and eject better, then I'm all for it.

I'm a big fan of winchester ballistic silvertips. Don't really buy much hornady factory ammo, but loading components I do. Almost all my rifle handloads use hornady bullets.

Winchester calls it "Lubalox". It was developed with a joint venture between them and Nosler, and that venture was labeled as Combined Technologies. It is not a moly-dip or spray on, as it does not come off on your hands.
