Good evening everyone, I am in the market for a sa/da pistol. I prefer9mm or .45. My question to all of you readers out there is which sa/da pistols are godd choices for day to day concealed carry? Thanks for your input.

If by "SA/DA" you mean "classical DA", ie first shot double action, subsequent shots single action, there are MANY guns that meet these criteria: Smith and Wesson auto pistols, SIG pistols, Beretta, Taurus, Ruger, Walther. FAR too many different models to answer the question well without more information.

    Ask yourself:

Do you want all steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloy, or polymer frame?

How big a gun do you want?

    Is capacity a factor?

    Will it fit your hand?

Will it fit your budget? (Starting with a particular budget in mind might be helpful, don't forget accessories including a good concealed holster, ammo for carry and practice, range time, and a cleaning kit).

EAA Witness or CZ75 are good and economical choices

I also really like both of those guns, but to be absolutely clear, to get to a DA-first pull on either one you have to "decock" by pulling the trigger on a live round and CAREFULLY easing the hammer down.

That can be a little nerve-wracking, and is probably not ideal for a gun novice.

The Israeli made Jericho pistol (aka "Baby Eagle") is essentially the same gun as the Witness (it was partially designed by Tanfoglio and had Tanfoglio made frames), but has a slide mounted decocking safety, facilitating true double-action carry. So if you WANT to carry with the hammer down on a live round, I'd suggest this variant instead.

Personally speaking, while I have done so on a few occasions, I really do NOT like carrying either the CZ-75 or Witness concealed, mainly because as full-sized all steel "service" type guns they are fairly heavy and bulky.

Both guns are available in lighter smaller compact versions (the CZ is called the "RAMI"; the EAA has a polymer version) that are probably better suited to concealed carry.

Yeah that is why there is the CZ75 BD which has the decocker.

I like the Glock 19 size. I am looking for something in either 9mm or .45 as high a cap as I can get. I have med/large hands, so most guns will fit my hands. I was looking at the Ruger and Kahr companies, although Glocks and Berettas are not out of the question. Thanks again.

I love my Glock 19.....I've got a few semi auto pistols....Kimbers, Sig Sauer and some revolvers and I always grab my G19....its just comfy to carry in an inside the pants holster..the weight and balance is nice...the recoil is little..its just a great all around gun and I love mine...I've owned lots of different guns including lots of Glocks and this G19 is just the best of everything...

HK USP, that's how I got mine configured. I can carry it cocked and locked or use the safety as a decocker.

Pickup a shotgun news, there's lot of stuff available for pretty decent prices. Lots of police trade in S&W 3rd gen semi-autos 5903's etc. Just gotta find a dealer who does transfers for a decent price.

    CZ-75 Compact, 2075 RAMI, BD...
Or you could go with either of the current military/police versions called the P-01 or P-06. They both have decockers. Of course there is still the original prototype out there the CZ-40P. After handling the DA/SA with no safety vs. the multi-safety of the 1911, I decided I like the DA/SA w/no safety.

Which brings me to my next question. Why do you consider a 9mm but not a .40? Most LE agencies have gone to the .40 simply because of it's terminal ballistics. And, the fact it's easier to handle than the .45. I used to think the .45 was no big deal...until I compared shooting more than 100 rds a morning on the range. I was still ready to go with the .40... I was pretty much done when shooting my .45.

Those are just some of my opinions, -good luck

Because I see no real value the .40 gives that the .45 does not already have. You might get a little more speed from the round, but you do not get that much in foot pounds of pressure on the recieving end compared to a .45. Besides the snap in recoil in the compact .40's is not very attractive. If I have the need to go larger than the 9mm, I go straight to the .45 (which I am very comfortable with, unless there are reasons I have not been exposed to about the .40 round ?).

I'm with you greenmile....not knocking the .40 because it has its uses....but its more expensive than 9mm and I just don't see where you get the bang for your buck( like the .357 sig....what's the point? you can take a 9mm +p+ and get the same performance as a .357 sig....of course then there wouldn't be a round in the name of Sig). Law Enforcement Agencies are transitioning away from the .40 back to .45. Virtually every Agency in my area is .45 now, 5 years ago it was all .40s.

you can still get your hands on the S&W chiefs special in both of those chamberings. Last I looked there were some of both on the auction side. They are alloy framed, and are basically the smallest DA/SA's I have seen.

I carry either my old P228 or one of my new P229s just about every day.
