I have a couple of early Remington Model 700's that have a clip loading slot. What clips are correct for the 30-06 caliber and the .243 caliber? Anyone ever use these for loading? Thanks.

Hi Ambrose~
Found this..

I'm not a Remington fan, and never paid much attention to slot cuts, but have seen early 700's with a clip slot..
I have a Remington model 30 with a receiver sight that has been rebored to .35 Whelen and, yes, I do clip load it; it's handy.
EDIT: We can solve this mystery easily. TWalker, I have a pint jar full of those Springfield clips (from the olden days!). If you send me a private email with your mailing address, I'll send you a couple, provided you get back to us and tell us if they work.
Bolted on where the rear scope base went. Used on 722/721 and early 700.
Used the 1903/1903a3 clips.
I do seem to remember an adapter which could be used for clip loading the Remington M700.
But, here is a short, bite-sized article regarding both the clip slot original actions and those with the lug slot in the later versions.

When I was building the M40A1, M40A3 and M40A5 duplicates, we added the clip slot feature along with the lug slot modification for the DD Ross rail. The pictures in the article along with the explanation make for good reading.
Best.
