Has anyone tried Van's cold blueing. I picked up some at a local gun show. The guy there showed us how easy it was to put on a barrel and it looked pretty simple but when your doing your own you like to get other views thanks.

AS far as Cold Blue Goes "not bad-one of the best" however you and others that know firearms will be able to tell it is cold blue[xx(][:(].

Have a bottle of Van's in my workbench- use it for touchup, scratches, screws, etc. One of the better cold blues, works better on some steels than others. Still not a hot blue, but good for stuff in a bottle.

    I've tried it.

For a cold blue product it does what its supposed to do, and its pretty easy to use.

But its a cold blue product. . .if it could replicate a "true" hot blue, then nobody would ever use the real thing!

I like it, but it is cold blue. It won't cover like hot, and it won't last.

...As others have stated, it's not near as good as a hot blue.

...Regardless of how good a blue product it is, the PREP is the MAIN thing for even a decent blue job...even with hot blue. Proper prep is the key, and make sure if you use steel wool that it's the oiless type..and your final clean needs to be done with a cleaner that is not a petrolium product...[;)]
