what are the differences between the mossberg 42 and 44 .22 target rifles, or are they basically the same rifles using the same parts with a different model number?
thank you.

Well, there are SEVERAL Mossberg 42s, and several 44s. In general, no, not the same rifle- some parts may interchange, many will not. Here is some info:http://home.epix.net/~damguy/models.htm

You might also touch base with Vic and Cheryl Havlin at www.havlinsales.com. They run the Mossberg Collectors Assoc, sell Mossberg parts, and are my go-to folks for anything Mossberg. Nice people as well.

Price for one. 44's are usually a millitary arm from years past. They are much more sought for.

Whick 44? The 44, the 44US, the 44US (a), or (b), or (c) ? The link I gave you has models, photos, specs, and years of production. The 44 US started in 1943 (I have rifle #912 of that first year)

i was refering to all of the mossberg 42 and 44 .22 target rifle manufacturing dates as a comparison and was trying to locate the first models of the two that were produced and then chronologically from there, but i am looking through the link information to determine that.
yes, the mossberg target .22 rifles are very accurate and very well made rifles and there are several others that also are interested in them as well, so there are a few of us on here.
regards and thank you for the information.

I got an M44 from the CMP last year. From what I've seen my came from an order placed in mid 1944. Great little rifles. Very accurate and lots of fun to shoot. It's becoming one of my favorites. It goes to the range with me every time I go.
