A gift certificate for $2500, what rifle?

I have an opportunity to get up to $2500 worth of rifle from a gun dealer in a trade for my services, which would cost me about $500 on my end. I don't hunt, flyfisherman by hobby but i always wanted a really precise long shooting rifle. My friends and I may go prairie dog/coyote shooting once or twice a year but mostly it would be for punching holes in paper and trying to best my buddy at the range. If you know about flyfishing you know we spend ludicrous amounts on rods and reels so quality is #1 to us and I guess a lot of others. It would be the same with the rifle. I do not own a firearm cept for my old bolt action .22 Remington from 40 years ago although I have 2 really nice match grade pellet rifles that cost as much as a good firearm. How would you spend $2500? Has to be retail cost and he does not make custom rifles.
I was thinking either a 223 or 22 250. Model? Manufacturer?

The Ruger 1 in intriquing cause its seems like a fine ( good looking) rifle.
I don't think ammo is in the mix, I think I would have to buy my own ammo and I don't really care about the cost diff of 223 vs. 22 250. So its rifle and scope, and mounting and rings and all else workmanship and any gunsmithing that might be needed.
What scope at about $700-900 would work?
And thknk you for the replies, I am learning by the hour.
You might also consider a Ruger No. 1 in 22-250 with the best optics you can get for the money.
Thats what I'd do! Ask them to hand select the wood for you when he orders it. Get a Ziess or Khales or Swarovski scope. Another suggestion is to post this over in the general discussion, you'll get a ton of responses and this thread is going to automatically lock after 10 replys.

This is a sweetheart.
Shopping around, it can be had for less than list price.
Their website is:
www.weatherby.com
and has a whole lot of information.
Weatherby also has lots of good rifles with wooden stocks, that might fill your need.
As far as a scope goes, I'd be looking at Leupold.
Also, before you take the plunge, you should spend a lot of time speaking with your VARMINT HUNTING buddies about this.
You might want to also C&P this to something like ms Word. I think that would spread it out to make it easier to read, or just go to their website, which is very clear.
Best of luck.

I had a SVM in .243 for a while and it was a great gun. I had it topped with a 6-24x50 MP8 reticle IOR. I got the gun from CDNN on a close out for $800.
I was not shooting it and a buddy had been bugging me for it for a couple years. I did a trade with him last year. He has put quiet a few rounds out of it. It is truly a SUB MOA gun. Plus they just look good.
