Stevens model 200 in .243

I'm looking at buying a Stevens model 200 in .243. All I have seen is great reviews on this gun for not only price but accuracy also. I am fairly confident in buying the gun, I am just wondering if I should get the short or long action. I will be mainly using the gun for coyote hunting but may use it if I want to hunt deer with a rifle if I don't get one with my bow. I would appreciate any opinions on the gun itself or the action and also a good scope for around $100-150.

Well if you are wanting a 243, it is a short action rifle so that should make the decision there a LOT less difficult.
On a cheap scope, i would look on ebay
You can BID on a nikon buckmaster and get a 3-9x40 for $150.
If you want a lot better scope for a little more money you can get a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 for about 175. Or you can buy my savage 110 in 243 with a scope already on it for a lot less than you can build this rifle for. Hope that helped you
These guns are pure junk .. We have sold several because of the price point but remember you are getting what you pay for ..Not one would shot a half way decent group .. I would not pay more than $299 for a new one either.. ..If you want a cheap scope then I would suggest a Savage 11 or 111 package with a clip and scope for under $400 new.. Id go either .223 or 243 for the yotes..
A Stevens 200 is junk? They are old style Savages without the accutrigger on them and the old style Savage synthetic stock. I have 1 of them in 308 and it drives tacks. Here is a good review:

They look like junk but true to Savage they shoot great. You can quote me on this: Savage put all the money in the rifle where it needs to be....anything left over they paid someone to make it look ugly!
Nothing at all wrong about a Savage-Stevens 200...except ugliness in a firearm....which hasn't killed or saved a coyote yet.
Last 3 that went out of here all didn't shoot for the guys who bought them.. Maybe shooter was problem..
They may have put real cheap junk scopes and mounts on them. I have found that guys who buy inexpensive guns, buy really cheap junk scopes and mounts and then blame the guns when they can't group. Personally I would rather have an inexpensive gun with a good scope/mount setup on it than an expensive gun with a cheap scope. I have a Leupold VXII on my Stevens 200 and it will make little groups all day long.

these are anything but junk. I have one in a 308 that i use for a truck gun and it will out shoot my rem 700. there a savage 110 barreled action with a cheap stock on them but they will shoot 1/2 in at 100 yards out of the box.
