How much should I ask ???

I'm going to a gunshow and auction next Saturday, and I want to come home with the cheapest AK47 rifle that I can.

I know...stoopid.

I plan to peddle an SKS with a folding bayonet, and what looks like a muzzle brake, but has no holes, so it may be a grenade launching device, and a NIB 10/22, unfired, blue with a synthetic stock.

The SKS looks like it may have been refinished in the not-to-distant past.

I know that you'd like pix, but I can't provide them.

What should I ask for my firearms, and what should I pay for a thrashed AK ??

Thank you.

Doug

Personally, I'd rather have a 10/22 and an SKS than an AK. . .

Hard to judge what trashed AKs are going for in this Obama-mania climate, but my guesstimate would be a minimum of $400 for a totally beaten one (assuming one mag and no other accessories). $450 is probably more reasonable, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if you couldn't find ANY for sale under $500 right now, since demand is high and everyone has jacked up prices.

Fortunately, the same will hold true for your SKS, though to a lesser extent.

That may fetch you $250 or so (depending on condition and where you are).

The 10/22 is probably also worth $250 ballpark if brand spanking new, though you could check your local Walmart for a good comparison retail price of a new one.

So a clean swap is probably doable.

Keep the two you have Doug, I like the SKS better than the AK [:D][}:)]

I like the SKS better too, but if you wanna get an AK then I'd look around and see what the going price is for the other sks rifles like yours and ask 25.00 less then the average dealer prices..

If it was me I'd be sure to get atleast 4 extra 30rnd mags with the AK, because reloading in a sticky wicket is awful slow with 1 mag.[:)]

I've not been a fan of either.

I just got the SKS so I'd have something that shoots 7.62X39,

Which is why I thought that I'd be trading up to an AK.

Can anyone tell me why the SKS is more desirable ??

I hate to say it, but it looks like a fairly well-made rifle.

My SKS is more far accurate than my AK. With the stripper clips, I can reload faster than an AK, albeit 10rounds at a time, but then you don't have the empty mags to lug around, just a strip of metal.

The SKS is far easier to handle without the magazine that hangs below.

SKS's don't have the 'black' gun stigma

The ak 47 is more sought after due to the mag release and design, the accuracy of the guns has a lot to do with the country who produced it ie. I have 2 SKS's Chinese and a Russian, the Russian is by far the better built, and much more accurate. It sounds like you may have the Yugo versian of the SKS as you mentioned the granade launcher. I personally love the SKS, but a little partial to the AK 47.

you should have at least 2 or 3 762x39 guns, so keep the sks and watch for an ak. i'd keep the ruger too for economic fun.
