This may have been covered prior but could not find anything.

What does everybody recommend for magazines for the .223/5.56 AR-15?

There are so many brands out there - would love to get some ideas from other peoples experiences.

C Products SS mags especially.

Thanks - Rourke

AR15.com rated AR mag brands some six or seven years ago.
    They would be my source.
On their advice, I changed my followers to the green, non tilt style.
I think there is a newer and maybe better follower today.

hello. ive got alot of different ones, all of them are military issued, contract over-runs. all of them work 100%. i leave them loaded year round and have no problems. the only ones i stay away from are the oralites, and the off brands like USA MAGS and a couple others.

Each and every one of my AR mags are COLT. [^]

I'm thinkin close to 60 of um. [:D]What you have is a mix of various USGI manufacturer's mags that are stamped 'Colt'. Their mags are made by whichever regular USGI contractor can give them the best deal at the time. I know that as of last summer Okay Industries was their supplier.

One way or another, since they're USGI contract mags they're good stuff - but in the end they'll probably bring better money simply because they say Colt on them.

Yep. The local gun shop has Okay mags in one bin, for $14.99 each. In the next bin are mags with a Colt baseplate on them. They are $19.99. You can tell they are the exact same mags, just with different baseplates on them. But, guys gush all over saying "look real Colt mags"! Hilarious.

    Colt factory mags?

Are they anything like SIG factory mags?

Or Smith & Wesson factory mags?

    Or the tooth fairy?

All my AR mags are GI, except for one H&K. Most are old and I have refitted them with new followers and springs. They work.

BTW, for most purposes I can think of, I prefer the 20 round mags. Rifle just feels better and handles better with the shorter mag.
