No, this isn't a question, it's an observation that the rest of the members can chime in on if they have information. I don't have time to run this down because it'll take some phone calls that I don't have time to make. So...

I was checking some information on Remington's website when I noticed that the M798 and M799 didn't show up in the 'Products' section. A quick search of the site came up with cached pages from 2008 but nothing current. Hmmmmmmmmm...

As I said, this is a back burner for me so if anyone knows something or can up with something, please sound off and pass the information along.

Best.

This is the most I have been able to find about them so far, but appears like they are discontinued. I know that Remington recieved the rights of Charles Daly's supplier and at the time it was a temporary deal. I know that some people were complaining about quality of the rifles from the supplier, so maybe Remington dropped them?

Can't get the link to work for some reason, but I went to the ask.com search engine and typed in "Remington 798 discontinued?" and found some info on the impactguns.com link.

I just recently bought a 799 from Bass Pro for $369.00 after a $30.00 rebate. Makes you wonder.

I also called Remington on another matter and when I asked them about the model 799 and 798 they told me that they were discontinuing those models under the Remington name.

So, there you go. When these are gone there will be no more.

By the way, I am still waiting on my rebate check. Should be here any day now.

As I recall, these are made in one of the Eastern European countries. It may be Yugoslavia. The financial and economic situation in most of these countries is very poor, and a crisis is probably looming. There was an economic summit in Brussels last Sunday, and Germany, the strongest of the Western European countries, declined to bail out Eastern Europe at this time.

I do not know if this is impacting the operations of the manufacturer of the mausers imported by Remington, but it may be a factor. Further, Remington is now owned by Cerberus, the private equity group that also owns Chrysler, among many holdings.

Due to the global financial crisis, many things are in flux, and the 798 and 799 could be just one of many issues in flux.
